In December 2016 I photographed this fascinating grouping of architectural embellishments on this 1903 building.
With the ever-present backlog of film processing, darkroom printing, and collage creation, it took until 2023 for me to print the image.
And until 2025 to complete this work.

Upcoming Photo Collage Workshop

I am happy to announce that I will be leading a 3-session photo collage workshop, hosted by Solas Studio in the Flatiron District of Manhattan.

Dates: October 22, October 29, November 5

This three-session Wednesday Workshop, from 6-8:30, will delve deeply into the creation of 2-D and 3-D abstract and representational photo collage. This free-form workshop will follow the interests and objectives of the participants. The emphasis will be on inspiration, technical mastery, and translating feelings and ideas into finished work.

3-D Silver Gelatin Photo Collage
19 x 13 x 1 inches
Made from 2 hand-cut darkroom prints, and a hand-built elevation platform

During the Pandemic, I developed a stacked, shaped matboard technique, to elevate the photo collage elements above the mounting board, and cast deep, dramatic shadows.

I made a short video detailing the process:

RECENT CURATORIAL PROJECT: Geography as Destiny, Solas Studio, New York, NY: June 3-24, 2025

I am thrilled to have curated this multimedia exhibition at Solas Studio in Midtown Manhattan. The show explores the influence of geographical location on the experiences of identity, love, longing, and a spectrum of human emotions. This exhibit included a range of media and approaches, including metaphorical and symbolic interpretations of the theme.

The exhibit included painting, sculpture, mosaic, and collage. Artists in the show are from New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Berkeley, London, and Finland.
